Complain? Smile? The choice is ours

The other day a friend gave me a book – one of my favorite kinds of gift.
Appropriately named Inspiration, the book is a collection of positive, inspiring,
and motivational quotes.

It talks about seeing the bright, positive side of things.
To be an optimist is not about seeing the world through rose-colored glasses.
It’s not about ignoring reality.

Optimism is about trying to bring out the best in those around us.
And ourselves.
It’s about being open to all that life has to offer.
The following quote, by William Arthur Ward, best describes optimism.

Real optimism is aware of problems
but recognizes solutions;

knows about difficulties
but believes they can be overcome;

sees the negatives,
but accentuates the positives;

is exposed to the worst
but expects the best;

has reason to complain,
but chooses to smile.
