Be a Smart ALEC

Years ago I wrote on this card ALEC and put it on my night stand.  It was there to remind me, at the end of the day, to ask myself these four questions:

Accomplish. What did I accomplish today? Did I do what I had on my schedule?

Learn. What did I learn today? A new skill? A better way of doing things?

Enjoy. Did I have fun? Did I see the humor in that predicament I found myself in?

Contribute. What did I contribute today? Did I give someone a warm smile and a sincere compliment? Is something or someone better today because of something I said or did?

Asking yourself these questions will help you find balance. Or at least “chase” it.
(And judging by what I hear some of you are chasing, you would do much better chasing this : )

The smart ALEC card is no longer on my night stand. Now it’s part of my evening routine. It has become a habit.
Make it a habit of yours. It’s smart to be a Smart ALEC.
